Testimonials

Whether you’re a current, former, or soon-to-be resident or a family member, we’d love to hear from you!

Despite all our efforts as a family, independent living had become increasingly difficult for our elderly mother. During a hospital stay in March of 2023, a social worker there gave us assisted living information that connected us to the Highlands on the East Side. From our very first meeting and tour, we knew then and there that this was far and away the best place for our mother. The team worked with our family closely as financing for the long haul could be challenging and with their efforts, the dream we had for our Mom became a reality. The apartments are spacious, clean and up to date. The staff is more than attentive and engaging with residents who are showered with kindness and smiles. The meals are delicious and served to the residents in a spacious dining room. The activities are plentiful and range from musical events, trivia time, bingo and card games to bus trips to the market, Roger Williams Park, Ziggy's.....we could go on and on! The Highlands also has a dedicated memory unit for those who would benefit from that level of care and attention.

If your loved one would be in need of assistance to meet their personal needs, the Highlands would definitely be worth your while to investigate further.

Debbie and I need to tell you how great your staff has been to us during this move. They and you have exceeded our expectations. We feel so comfortable with you and your staff providing the assistance to Barbara and Lenny. I stopped by your office to personally thank you but your not in today. We could not let another day pass with out telling you how we feel.
Quick note of thanks and appreciation. Visiting again yesterday with my Dad has prompted me to reach out. His stories of engagement and interaction are a delight to hear and witness. Highlands is a wonderful match for him and I appreciate all your assistance to make residency happen and with ease. There are so many pluses, including the location of his room, which plays a significant role in his easily getting back and forth to meals and participating in activities, which all benefits his health, immensely. He feels comfortable, safe and cared for. Warms my heart to see him laugh, relay stories of incidents (though sometimes I hope it doesn't come across as grumbly at your end) and see the advancements he has made since his arrival. Ok perhaps not such a quick note, but.... wanted to extend to you and all the staff, my heartfelt Thank You!
We toured a couple of months ago and Mom has adapted perfectly to the Highlands. Staff are very caring and treat my Mom like a princess.
I found The Highlands. It’s wonderful. My sister has never been happier. She’s taking much better care of herself. She cares about what she looks like again. It’s like a wonderful, friendly hotel. They also have an Alzheimer’s unit. They integrate well with the residents. They took her down to Foxwoods to gamble. That’s a gambling place in the next state, so they took a trip down there. She and another group also went to another place here in Rhode Island. They have someone that they do word games with, and they do memory games, and they read to each other. Then they give them play money, and then they have auctions, and they can buy things with their play money. It’s really quite interesting. She’s so excited to be there. The maintenance person is a gem. He runs the staff well, and the staff is very, very helpful. It’s a team that’s working very well together.
Dear Jessica, My Mom asked me to tell you that Brenda has been doing such a great job with her! She goes above and beyond! She calls Brenda her “A+” helper. I so appreciate hearing this and have periodically thanked Brenda whenever I see her. It’s comforting to know that she is being well cared for! Thanks so much!
Dear Valerie, Karen & Caregivers: Your farewell party for me was sincerely appreciated. I shall miss The Highlands and all the good friends I made in my 1½ happy years with you. My family felt I should be living closer to my daughter and that was the reason I moved. Thank you, again, for the great party and the framed messages from all of you. I shall miss you and treasure your friendships, one and all. Sincerely with love,
Dear Michelle: Thank you for being so cheerful and always helpful. I will really miss you. I enjoyed the banana bread. That was so thoughtful of you. Wishing you good health and good luck. Fond wishes
Dear Valerie: Thank you for helping to make Friday a special day for our family. We truly appreciate the great job you and your staff did to make the private room comfy and festive. It had been 13 years since all 3 of us were together at one time. We had a most wonderful time thanks to all of you. With deepest regards,
Dear Michelle: Thank you so much for making my mother’s party such a huge success. You outdid yourself as our private waitress, especially knowing each of our guests’ names. It meant so much to us that you took such care and pride in making mother’s birthday meal so absolutely perfect. With my sincere appreciation and thanks,
To the Entire Highlands Staff, Words cannot express our sincere thanks for taking such good care of Uncle Bud during his stay at The Highlands. We were always very comfortable knowing he was in good hands while we were 1,000 miles away. May God bless each and every one of you at The Highlands.
Dear Mr. Strong, I am writing to tell you (if you did not already know) about Valerie Houshar. She is simply a gem of a person and administrator. She is working today, Christmas day, but every day she cares for my elderly mother as if she were her own. My brother and I are in positions of medical leadership at Harvard and Brown, respectively. We bless the day our mom moved into The Highlands and wish that Val were working with us.
Dear Valerie,

Having recently left your facility for hospice care, my mother-in-law, Mary Jane Sawyer, passed away on Sunday night. While my wife, Pam Madigan, was the primary interface with you and The Highlands, I wanted to send this message praising you and your organization for the truly exceptional care given to Mary Jane.

Each time I visited The Highlands, I always felt like giving hugs to the staff for the cheery and responsive treatment given to all of the residents…not an easy job. Despite Mary Jane’s falls and illnesses requiring hospital care, the staff constantly had her best interests in mind and provided us with excellent communications.

As your duties often require working long hours, long weeks, and perhaps even Christmas day, you and your staff should let your families know that you are sincerely appreciated for your efforts in making a difference in the lives of your residents. Thank you for making the last months of Mary Jane’s life worth living. Sincerely grateful,
Dear Jessica, I am writing to express my appreciation for the care that your wonderful staff has provided for my mother, Elise Weisman. I visit her often, but have found that by the time I notice a problem, one of your staff has usually already identified it and dealt with it. Every one of your staff has always been warm, attentive and professional. I would like to make special note of Joanna. She does every task with energy and efficiency. However, what makes her especially worth noting is the warmth and affection she shows my mother, who always brightens when Joanna is in the room regardless of her previous mood. Joanna goes a long way toward making her feel cared for and part of the “Highlands family”. Thank you for the remarkable care you and your staff provide. Sincerely,

On behalf of my family, I wanted to thank you for all you did for my mom. She left your facility a totally different person. I can’t believe what a difference a month made. We are so grateful to you and all the staff at The Highlands.
The Highlands is not just home for me, it’s family. I love all the activities and the food is always delicious!
